Website Design for Painting Contractors

We measured how fast 45 painting contractor websites actually load. One in four takes longer than 2.5 seconds — the highest share of any trade we measured, and before-and-after galleries are usually why.

Painting is the trade where homeowners most believe the work is a commodity — that anyone with a sprayer and a ladder will do, so it comes down to price. That belief is expensive for you, and your website is the main place it either gets reinforced or dismantled.

Measured across 45 painting websites: median largest-contentful-paint 1.6 seconds, 25% slower than 2.5 seconds, 7% scoring under 50 on Google's performance scale.

If the site doesn't differentiate, price does

Most painting quotes are compared side by side on number alone, because nothing else on the table distinguishes them. A site that shows preparation, materials, crew and process gives the homeowner something to weigh other than the figure at the bottom.

Prep work is invisible and it's your whole margin

The difference between a three-year paint job and a ten-year one is preparation nobody sees. The website is the only place you get to show that before the quote arrives.

Before-and-afters are the most persuasive thing you own

They're also image-heavy, which is why a third of the sites we measured are dragging. Same trap as the paving trade — the best sales asset is the thing slowing the page down.

Lead-gen platforms charge you to arrive as a stranger

Angi, Thumbtack and the rest hand a homeowner three names at once. The one whose own site looks most established wins a disproportionate share of those.

What painting businesses ask us

Painting is a price business. Nobody cares about my website.

It's a price business precisely when nothing else distinguishes you. Prep, materials, crew and warranty are what move a homeowner off pure price, and the website is where they get explained before you're standing in the living room.

I get plenty of leads from Angi and Thumbtack.

You're paying for those leads and then arriving as one of three names. The homeowner looks all three up. A stronger site turns paid leads you already bought into more won jobs.

I'm a small operation, not a big company.

That's an advantage worth saying out loud, not hiding. Homeowners are often actively looking for the owner-operator who shows up personally rather than a franchise sending a subcontractor.

What if I want out later?

Cancel whenever. We hand you the complete source code for your site — it's yours. What ends is us hosting and maintaining it, so you'd need somewhere to put it. No exit fee, no holding it hostage.

Questions

How long does a painting contractor site take?

Under seven days from kickoff if approvals and photos come back promptly.

Can you show before-and-after galleries without slowing it down?

Yes. Done properly they load fast — done the usual way they're the main reason a third of this trade scores under 70.

Residential and commercial on one site?

Yes, but as separate paths. They're different buyers asking different questions, and blending them into one pitch weakens both.
