Website Design for Dental Practices

We measured how fast 149 dental practice websites actually load. The median is 1.6 seconds, but 11% score under 50 on Google’s performance scale — usually imagery and booking widgets.

Dental came out ahead of every trade we measured. That's not a reason to relax — it's the opposite. When the field is stronger, a weak site stands out more, and the practice down the road is more likely to be one of the 5% scoring 90 or above. Dental is the only field in our data where that number isn't effectively zero.

Measured across 149 dental websites: median largest-contentful-paint 1.6 seconds, 20% slower than 2.5 seconds, 11% scoring under 50 on Google's performance scale.

A new patient is a decade-long relationship, decided in four minutes

Choosing a dentist is unusually personal and unusually anxious. Prospective patients arrive already nervous, already suspicious of cost, and often already burned by a previous practice. They're not comparing procedures — they're deciding whether they trust you.

Insurance is the first question and the last barrier

If someone can't quickly tell whether you take their plan, most won't call to find out. They'll check the next practice on the list, where it says so plainly.

Anxiety is a design problem

Real photos of the actual office and actual team do more for a nervous patient than any amount of copy about technology. Stock imagery reads as a practice with something to hide.

Booking friction is where new patients leak out

Every extra step between deciding and booking loses a share of the people who had already made up their mind. That's the cheapest conversion you will ever buy back.

What dental businesses ask us

We're not taking new patients right now.

Then this is about which patients, not how many. Practices with a full book still lose patients every year to moves, insurance changes and attrition — and a strong site is what makes the replacements the ones you actually want.

Our practice management vendor gave us a website.

Most of those are shared templates with the practice's name swapped in, and they're heavily represented in the bottom quarter we measured. Run the audit and see where yours actually lands.

Patients come from our insurance network listing.

The listing gets you on the shortlist. Nobody books from a directory line item — they look you up first. Your site is the tiebreaker between you and the two other in-network practices on the same page.

We just had it redesigned.

Then it may well be fine, and if it is we'll tell you. Recent doesn't mean fast, though — a redesign heavy on imagery and booking widgets is one of the most common ways a good-looking site ends up scoring in the sixties.

Questions

How long does a dental practice site take?

Under seven days from kickoff if approvals and practice details come back promptly.

Is this HIPAA-relevant?

A marketing site that doesn't collect health information is a different thing from a patient portal. If your site needs to handle anything patient-specific, tell us up front and we'll scope it properly rather than guessing.

Can you connect our existing scheduling software?

Usually yes — that's an integration and we scope it separately. Tell us what you run and we'll be straight with you about what's involved.

What it costs

$3,297 to launch, whether we are refreshing an existing site or starting from scratch, plus $299 a month for the managed platform — hosting, security, uptime monitoring, AI-powered editing and a real team on call. Full pricing · Free 60-second site check
